Trevor Corson

“Trevor Corson was the ideal speaker to kick off our lecture series for the year. He drew an enthusiastic crowd of various ages and delivered a winning combination of comedy, science, and culinary wisdom that enlightened and entertained at the same time. Trevor’s personable yet informative style led to a lively question-and-answer period, and his memorable visit helped to engage members of our community in our work and reinforce the mission of our institution.”

—Jerry Schubel, President and CEO, Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, California

“Trevor Corson gave a truly interesting lecture; we enjoyed his talk and personal stories. His presentation was humorous, informative, and very entertaining, and the audience was captivated by both the lecture and the question-and-answer session. Our evaluations from the audience were all positive and enthusiastic, evident by the many copies of Trevor’s books we sold and the long line of people waiting for his autograph and to speak with him personally. It was a delight to have him come speak and we hope that he will visit us again.”

—Reiko Nishioka, Director of Education, and Wendy Lo, Adult Education Program Coordinator
The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Delray Beach, Florida

“Trevor Corson was one of the most skilled and engaging speakers we’ve had, and his lecture was a smashing success, attracting an overflow crowd. He also delivered an insightful and constructive seminar providing crucial tips for helping our scientists and experts communicate their work to the public. We plan to have Trevor back again soon.”

“As our keynote speaker, Trevor Corson kept more than 300 fidgety high school students, their teachers, and university faculty engrossed with his engaging and informative presentation. He was the perfect speaker—I heard directly from teachers and students that the students were talking about his presentation for the rest of the school year.”

—Robert Rocha

President, Massachusetts Marine Educators Association

“Trevor Corson made an immediate connection with our students by using humor to teach them that their decisions can change the environment. The students rushed the stage after the talk for copies of Trevor's sustainable seafood guide.”

Trevor speaks frequently to a variety of audiences, whether it’s a thousand professionals attending a conference, several hundred college freshmen in a campus auditorium, or a group of executives in a private room at an elegant restaurant or club. His audiences laugh and learn, and leave with a newfound delight in the wondrous world of the seas, the passionate pursuit of knowledge, and an empowering sense that their own choices in life—whether it’s simply to enjoy better seafood, master the art of sushi connoisseurship, or even become involved in marine conservation—can make a difference.

Trevor has lectured at many of America’s premier venues, including the National Press Club, the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C., and the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and has addressed audiences in a wide variety of corporate, conference, institutional, educational, and restaurant settings. (Please scroll down for a list of recent venues.)

Trevor offers a variety of presentations and can tailor his talk to your needs. He frequently delivers a talk titled “Dinner Matters: Lobster Love, Sushi Secrets, and How We Can Help Save the Seas with Smart Eating,” in which he makes extensive use of photos and videos, including underwater footage that is both gripping and amusing, as well as scenes aboard fishing vessels and from global seafood markets. As he talks, Trevor draws on the experiences and knowledge he gained while researching and writing his two bestselling books—The Secret Life of Lobsters and The Story of Sushi—as well as his two years working as a full-time commercial fisherman, his work as the only "Sushi Concierge" in the United States, and his appearances as a judge on Food Network TV's hit show Iron Chef America. He shares with his audiences his passion for marine science and fishing, the hilarious social life of lobsters, the surprising secrets of sushi,
and the current plight of the endangered bluefin tuna. He ties the material together with an empowering message about how our choices at the dinner table and the ways we harvest our seafood can help save our oceans.

Trevor also gives educational presentations in which he focusses on his first book, the worldwide pop-science bestseller The Secret Life of Lobsters. In addition, Trevor produces and hosts his unique Sushi Concierge dinners, banquets, and lectures for large and small groups, both public and private.

Finally, Trevor also teaches and discusses the craft of writing and the growing need for effective ways to communicate science to non-scientists; Trevor has taught at Harvard University’s Nieman Conference, the Key West Literary Seminar, and the University of Memphis MFA program, the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, as well as at a variety of colleges and high schools. When visiting a university, school, or research center, Trevor often combines a public speech with seminars—directed at students or professionals or both—to discuss approaches to communicating with the public through storytelling and ways to bridge the gap between the public and the work of scientific or other experts. He also discusses how the experience of living abroad and learning foreign languages led to his approach, shaping his perspective on the world in the process. Trevor has taught at Harvard University’s Nieman Conference, the Key West Literary Seminar, and the University of Memphis MFA program, the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, as well as at a variety of colleges and high schools.
